The Art of Still-Life Painting

In this course, you will be led through the stages of the painting process in the recreation of a still life of one of the three images of works featured here (also in our “Student Works” website page). Topics to be discussed include: Why are these paintings successful, what pigment mixtures might best match certain colours and how to develop various textures that describe the tactile qualities of the objects portrayed. By the end, you will have produced a still-life painting certain to impress everyone and, more importantly, you will understand the ideas and techniques that construct a strong image. -Ideas and techniques that you can then use to paint your own original artwork!
